IN JUST ONE YEAR, THE FISTBALL WORLD WILL GATHER IN REIDEN FOR THE U18 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP & WOMEN’S EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2026
Exactly one year from now, the world’s best up-and-coming fistball players will compete for the U18 World Championship title in Reiden from July 23–26, 2026. At the same time, the top elite women’s teams from across Europe will battle for the Women’s European Championship title. This means double the spectacle is guaranteed. Around 24 teams from all over the world are expected. The organizer, STV Vordemwald, has already been working intensively on preparations for over a year, aiming to transform the Kleinfeld sports complex in Reiden into a true “fistball temple.”
For the two main playing fields, an additional grandstand will be built, along with smaller stands on the sides, similar to those seen at traditional Swiss wrestling festivals. A third field will complete the arena. A large tent on the gravel area near the swimming pool will serve as a catering space for spectators and as a separate dining area for players. In the evenings, this tent will transform into a festival tent, allowing fans to celebrate long after the players have gone to bed.
When it comes to infrastructure and all other aspects, the organizer’s top priority is the well-being of the athletes:
„For many of these young athletes, this will be their first major international event. And for some coming from overseas, it may even be their first time in Europe. That’s why it’s important to us not only to provide perfect playing conditions, but also to ensure they feel safe and comfortable off the field as well”. STV Vordemwald is therefore organizing meals, accommodation, and transportation for the teams.
But even getting this far took time:
„In recent months, we first had to clarify what is even possible, where and how, and which requirements (both external and our own) we want and are able to meet. This required a lot of coordination and some internal fine-tuning within the organizing committee. But now the momentum is really building”.
What are the biggest hurdles in planning?
„There are many different parties, such as authorities, associations, infrastructure providers, accommodation providers, suppliers and sponsors, who need to be contacted by our OC members. This, as well as coordination between them, requires a great deal of communication. And ultimately, someone has to keep track of everything“.
However, as is often the case in amateur sport, one of the biggest hurdles remains the financial aspect. The infrastructure and the high demands placed on team support are not cheap, and costs must be closely monitored. „It’s great that we have already been able to secure important sponsors, but we are also feeling broad support from private individuals. We are even proud to present two main partners, namely Mobiliar – Generalagentur Zofingen and Böni Gebäudetechnik AG“.
For years, STV Vordemwald has been able to count on a great deal of support from businesses and private individuals, and we are always very grateful for this.
